The gusset, all ready to be bound to the paddles.

Note that it may be preferable to sew the end of the gusset after it is mounted on the paddles, rather than before. I did some careful measuring and the gusset diameter turned out just right for the paddles. It certainly is easier to make this stitch before rather than after, but as we will see, there are drawbacks to this approach.

A heavy duty leather sewing machine, like the Tippmann Boss would be really nice for this, and for lock stitching bags. Too bad the Tandy clone, which was half the price, will never go into production. For what it's worth, I hear the Tippmanns have 'issues'.
