Ready for finishing. I used Minwax Wood Finish (a stain) "Red Oak 215", which looks quite nice on the Oak veneer. This provides a simple and attractive finish. There are many other ways to finish wood. I would particularly like to explore French polishing techniques on nicer wood paddles.
Wearing glove, dip a soft rag into the stain and wipe it along the grain, giving it time to soak in. Then wipe of excess and let the stain dry for an hour or so. Repeat, in coats, until you have achieved the color depth that you want.
